Weekends : 10.00 A.M to 5.00 P.M

The Central Library is kept open on all the days of the year, except on Public Holidays (approximately 340 days in a year).

The Central Library of Alagappa University was started in 1987 and shifted to the present building in 1990. The magnificent, functionally convenient building built at a cost of Rs. 50 lakhs, thanks to the generous assistance from the UGC during VII Plan, and Government of Tamilnadu. The Library occupies an area of 2012 square metre with a seating capacity of 200+. The Library collection includes one lakh volumes of printed books, subscriptions to 149 printed periodicals, 492 itess of non-book materials, and 1446 volumes of theses in print form. Access to 6242+ numbers of Online journals and 1,31,000+ numbers of e-theses are also available. The mode of access is Open Access. The Library caters mainly to the needs of Post Graduate Students, Research Scholars, Faculties and other Staff of the University.

Library operations are mostly computerized especially circulation of books and cataloguing. Currently RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) based Library Management System is implemented in the current year. This has made possible a User friendly self-checkout and self-check-in options, web based OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) and smart payment facility for overdue charges. The Library has all the amenities of a University Library – an inviting exterior, spacious Reading Halls, three-tier Stack Rooms, lucrative Conference Hall, elegant Discussion Room; Rooms for the Librarian, Library staff and different sections of the Library. It has essential equipments for computing, printing, reprography, binding, etc. Besides the Central Library, there are four Faculty Libraries and Department Libraries to cater to the needs of the users in the respective locations.

NPTEL : (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning ) is a MHRD sponsored project for hosting Online Video Resources and They are also useful for GATE preparation.
INFLIBNET : Theses of all Indian universities and synopses reports hosted under INFLIBNET's Shodhganga Repository
NCERT : English and Hindi books of different subjects for School students from primary to the level of 12th standard.
KRISHIKOSH : Agriculture books, journals, articles, reports etc
LIBRIVOX : Audio books helpful for visually challenged students. Librivox is a non-commercial, non-profit and ad-free project. Copyright free books available in public domain are converted into audios in this project and the same audio books are again released to public domain.
